plants - the first reveal

This

yielded this

and was plucked straight from the plant, cut into slices, brushed with oil and grilled on the brand new BBQ.

Heaven!

The eggplants are growing before our eyes. How exciting to pick and cook in the space on one small pirouette.

Summer is growing on me and reviving my spirit (much needed, the family visit was tough). Another tonic was a visit to Boz's beach house on the Peninsula.

Who'd have thought how difficult it would be to procure fish and chips in the evening of the first sunny weekend of the school holidays?

"Sorry we are out of flake"

"No hamburgers left"

*Not answering phone*

"Taking no more orders"

*Shut - reopening soon*

"Fifty minute wait but we are out of most things"

In a tourist town no less!

That eggplant is gorgeous! The ones I parmigiana-ed in Tumut, NSW were far sorrier specimens.

Glad you're finding relaxation and rejuvenation at home, if not abroad.

summer, seaside, and fish and chips are synonymous - hard to believe you couldn't walk into a fish and chip shop on the coast for dinner - but your eggplant does look large and glossy and just begging for the bbq - something nice to return home to!

Nice deadly nightshade. Wish I'd got my seedlings in in time. Instead, I've got red okra coming up...

Who is that handsome hound?

my eggplants are growing so slowly, so jealous you are harvesting! When did you get them out and planted?

What a superb eggplant! I have said plant growing and I have high hopes for it. Have you fed it with anything? Seaweed fertiliser? Barry White albums?

Sorry to hear the trip home was hard, but so good that you could get away to the beach after it all. Fish and chips should be readily available on tap at this time of the year!

The eggplant seedling went in late October. We were a little late with our planting, so was surprised to come home from holiday to find the first shiny offering amongst the flowers. There are a few more charging along as I type.

As for fish and chips by the sea - not an unusual request in these parts, we finally acquired some very expensive but yummy boxes off the stuff at about 9.30. Our quest began at 7, when it was still warm and sunny.

The handsome hound was our host, Boz. Aint he cute!
